Working in partnership with the Lifelong Learning and Outreach Team of East Dunbartonshire Council and Cumbernauld College we are able to provide a number of courses free of charge. The range of training courses available at Lennoxtown Initiative is varied and changes all the time. Courses which have run at the Lennoxtown Initiative include:

Computers for Beginners for people who are at various levels
Internet and Email
Music Composition using Computers
Family History at Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Level
British Sign Language
Child Psychology
First Aid

The above courses are tutor lead but there is also an array of learning opportunities available online through our involvement with Learn Direct.

If you are interested in learning at Lennoxtown Initiative, contact us and we can let you know what is available.

For people who are looking for work but feel they require further training Lennoxtown Initiative can help them access the support they need. Through our partners EDC Learning Opportunities Team, Careers Scotland, Jobcentre Plus and the Job Link team of the Lennox Partnership, we hold regular drop-in sessions for people to find out how to get the help they need. A quick visit to the Lennoxtown Initiative offices can ensure individuals get the assistance they need. The types of assistance available include access to vocational training, on the job training through placements and information and advice on college courses.

Jobs

A key element of regenerating the village is helping people to access job opportunities, at Lennoxtown Initiative we are able to provide a range of services aimed at assisting people back into work. This includes employability skills training through EDC Learning Opportunities Team , and free, practical help such as:

· use of the resource room
· quality targeted CVs
· up to date information about courses
· help with application forms
· assistance with identifying employers
· help with employer mailshots
· access to job opportunities
· access to money advice

Through this assistance 15 people went into work, in the coming year we aim to extend this service and help even more people into employment.

Learning

One of our priorities is to encourage lifelong learning in Lennoxtown and we welcome input from local people as to what they would like to see delivered at Lennoxtown Initiative. During the year there has been tremendous activity in our purpose built learning facility. We are pleased to have delivered 13 courses to 132 people, this has been achieved by working in partnership with East Dunbartonshire Council, Cumbernauld College and Anniesland College. The following courses were delivered:

Computers for Beginners
British Sign Language
Work Preparation
Aromatherapy
Adult Literacies
Family History
Internet & Email

Learners

As well as tutor-led learning we can also support people to learn online, there are a range of opportunities available and staff are on hand to show people what is on offer.
